Welcome To Mini Lops

Mini Lop Colour Guide

I have decided to add this page due to all the questions that I asked (and still do at times lol)

regarding colours when I started getting interested in colour genetics.

I am still very much learning and have a few good friends in the

rabbit world (you know who you are - and thank you for your help)

who im sure I drive mad with my colour genetics questions!!

This page is very much work in progress and please bear with me - Thank you

Anyway I hope that it may help and if I do get anything wrong

PLEASE shout very loudly at me!!!

DILUTE COLOURS:

The dilute gene in quite simple, however both dam & sire must be dilute colour or carriers to produce dilute kits:

Eg: Choc Self (not dilute carrier) X Lilac Self

Would NOT produce Lilac kits, both parents must be dilute or carry dilute

*   *   *

Lilac is dilute of Chocolate

Blue is dilute of Black

Isabella/Beige is dilute of Sooty Fawn

Lilac Tort is dilute of Chocolate Tort

Opal  is dilute of Agouti

Fawn/Cream is dilute of Orange

Squirrel is dilute of Black Chinchilla

Lilac chinchilla is dilute of Chocolate Chinchilla

Lilac Agouti/Lynx is dilute of Chocolate Agouti

Non-Extencion

The Non Extencion Gene I also found quite easy to understand.

It is Important to understand that both parents are required to be a Non Extencion colour or carry Non Extencion inorder to produce Non Extencion Colour kits.

Choc Tort is the Non Extencion of Choc Self

Lilac Tort is the Non Extencion of Lilac Self

Sooty Fawn is the Non Extencion of Black Self

Isabella / Beige is the Non Extencion of Blue

*   *   *

Eg: Choc Self (NOT carrying Non Extencion) X Choc Tort

Would NOT produce Non Extencion coloured kits.

However if you bred two Chocolate Selfs that were Non Extencion Carriers you have a good chance of getting Non Extencion Coloured kits in the litter,

in this case it would be choc torts

Butterfly/Broken
----------En--
To start off you can't get a butterfly/broken out of 2 solids. It is impossible!

Even if both rabbits are bred from Butterfly/Broken

One parent has to be broken unless it is a rew. A rew can be a broken, masked.

Below is a chart that gives you the ratio of what you would get if you bred:

Self X Self = 100% Self
Charlie X Charlie = 100% Charlie
Broken X Broken = 50% Broken
25% Self
25% Charlie
Broken X Charlie = 50% Broken
50% Charlie
Broken X Self = 50% Broken
50% Self

However this is only a guide and things dont always go with the law of logic!!

Charlie = A broken that has very few markings (color), usaully less then 10%. ENEN
Self =  is a soild or full color- enen
Butterfly/Broken = more the 10% color- ENen
Charlie X Self = 100% Broken
Examples of butterfly broken mini lops are on my mini lop page

Sky, Inka & Daisy (please be aware that Inka & Daisy are also Otters)

Bew *Blue-Eyed White*
----------vv
Surface color: Pure White
Undercolor: Pure White
Eyes: Bright Blue.
Bews are an interesting color to work with. It is the vennia gene (vv) that produces the bew.

Those that are carriers (Vv) are mismarked, sports, or also called vennia marked (VM). These are bunnies that are, for example a pure black bunny with a white foot, or white nose, sometimes you also get half blue eyes. These are called VM.

Those that are out of a bew parent and show non of the white marking are called Vinnea Carriers (VC).
Color at birth: Kit looks pink till fur comes in White. Blue eye color visible when eyes open at 10 days, will look gray but get brighter blue with age.

For Examples Of BEW's please see my mini lops

Star & Boss

Chocolate Tort

In order to breed a Choc Tort, both parents will NEED to be choc or choc carriers and NEED to be a Non Extencion Colour or carrier.
